Professional Qualification Program for Heavy Truck Drivers

The professional driver card cannot be renewed without passing the competency exam — and the exam cannot be entered without a completion certificate from an accredited centre.

  • Duration per the TGA-approved package
  • Arabic · English · Urdu
  • Max 25 trainees per class
  • Accredited completion certificate

What is the heavy truck driver qualification program?

Heavy haulage is the backbone of the Kingdom's supply chains — from the ports of Jeddah and Dammam to the projects of Riyadh and NEOM. Its drivers outnumber every other transport activity combined.

A TGA-accredited program for goods-transport truck drivers: regulations, weights, loads and load securing, safe heavy-vehicle driving, and fatigue management.

The regulatory chain is simple: no training → no completion certificate → no exam → no card → a parked driver → a parked truck.

The certification path — three bodies, three steps

1

Training course — at POTC

Completing the course at an accredited training centre is the entry requirement for the exam. Output: a course-completion certificate.

2

Professional competency exam — at an independent test centre

Pass mark 60% or higher. Output: the professional competency certificate (valid 5 years).

3

Professional driver card — from the Transport General Authority

Issued by TGA after passing the exam; renewal is tied to a valid competency certificate.

The competency certificate is valid for 5 years; regulation requires a refresher course at an accredited training centre at least 60 days before expiry — otherwise the professional driver card cannot be renewed.

Regulation prohibits combining training and testing. POTC is an accredited training centre; it does not run the competency exam nor issue its certificate.

FAQ

How does the program relate to the professional driver card?

The card is issued after passing the competency exam, and the exam only admits applicants who completed the training course at a TGA-accredited training centre.

How does it differ from the hazardous materials program?

Heavy transport covers general goods haulage. Hazardous materials is a separate program for dangerous cargo leading to a hazmat driver card.

My card expires soon — when should I start?

Start before the wave, not during it: finish the course and the exam before your card expires — a parked driver means a parked truck. For fleets we build batch schedules around card expiry dates.

Does the centre issue the certificate?

The centre issues only the course-completion certificate. The competency certificate is issued by an accredited test centre at a 60% pass, then TGA issues the professional driver card.

How long is the program?

Duration follows the TGA-approved training package — contact us for batch schedules.

In which languages is training delivered?

Arabic, English, and Urdu, with a maximum of 25 trainees per class.
