Professional Qualification Program for Operations Managers

A driver is responsible for one vehicle. You are responsible for the fleet — who drives it, on which card, on which route, with which documents.

  • Duration per the TGA-approved package
  • Supervisory, corporate track
  • Small groups
  • Accredited completion certificate

What is the operations manager qualification program?

The operations manager — per TGA's definition — is the person responsible for supervising, planning, and operating the organisation's goods-transport fleet. They are the single point of failure in any transport organisation.

A driver's mistake parks one truck; a planning or compliance mistake parks the whole fleet the same day.

A TGA-accredited program building supervisory capability: compliance and licensing, operations planning and scheduling, driver management and safety, maintenance, performance, and cost.

The certification path — three bodies, three steps

1

Training course — at POTC

Completing the course at an accredited training centre is the entry requirement for the exam. Output: a course-completion certificate.

2

Professional competency exam — at an independent test centre

Pass mark 60% or higher. Output: the professional competency certificate (valid 5 years).

3

Professional driver card — from the Transport General Authority

Issued by TGA after passing the exam; renewal is tied to a valid competency certificate.

The competency certificate is valid for 5 years; regulation requires a refresher course at an accredited training centre at least 60 days before expiry — otherwise the professional driver card cannot be renewed.

Regulation prohibits combining training and testing. POTC is an accredited training centre; it does not run the competency exam nor issue its certificate.

FAQ

Who is the operations manager per TGA's definition?

The person responsible for supervising, planning, and operating the organisation's fleet for goods transport.

Is the program suitable for a small transport business owner?

Yes. Many SME owners run operations themselves; the program addresses their need directly.

How does it differ from the driver programs?

Driver programs build individual driving and safety competence. This program builds fleet-level supervisory capability: planning, compliance, safety management, and performance.

How does it help me qualify my fleet's drivers?

A program outcome is building your fleet's qualification plan and training batches around card expiry dates — you leave with an executable plan for your own fleet.

Does the centre issue the certificate?

The centre issues the course-completion certificate — the entry requirement for the competency exam held at an accredited test centre (pass mark 60%).

How long is the program?

Duration follows the TGA-approved training package — contact us for batch schedules.
